We woke yesterday to the great news that Achilles Wheel has been asked to play The Strawberry Music Festival this Friday. This is a very last minute thing, and due to the unfortunate cancellation of the band Brown Bird. We will do our best to honor them and also to honor this opportunity to bring our music to you all.
Jonny and I also want to ask you all to support a fund raiser that we’ve started on Indiegogo.com. We are in need of funds to hire a management company in Europe to promote Achilles Wheel there. We work hard to bring love and inspiration to the world, onstage and off, and this project means very much to us. We hope you all can help out.

One of the most beautiful things about being a traveler is having the chance to meet new people and learn their story. As traveling musicians we are constantly subjecting others to our thing, and while that’s usually pretty great, it’s a gift to us to be drawn into the lives of those we are meeting for the first time.
Jonny and Gary and I played at Fitztpatricks winery in Fairplay on Friday as a warm up to heading out to the Bay Area. The folks there are very friendly and supportive of live music, and the vinyard is dotted with owl houses, so the night is full of both human and owl hoots.
Before our Saturday show at the Sleeping Lady in Fairfax we stopped over with our friend Seamus in Lincoln California for a great community BBQ and fund raising event. It was the first heat of the year and the grownups were mostly hiding with a cool drink while the kids danced quite nicely to the sounds of Achilles Wheel…
Into the twilight we arrived in Marin and were fortunate to make it in time to hear our friends Spark and Whisper start up the night at the Sleeping Lady. You really should check these two wonderful songwriters out…they’ll be at the Kate Wolf Festival this year and bring a very real thing with their music.
We had a trio with Shelby on bass at the Sleeping Lady and found a good bit of magic, as we try to do no matter what. Shelby is attracting a bit of attention for his bass playing…a bit unconventional even by our liberal standards, but like the dude said in the film ‘All of Me’…’what, you don’t like that?’ All y’all will learn to like it and forget about ‘normal’ bass playing…it’s right because it’s heartfelt. We thank the owners of the Sleeping Lady for taking a chance on an unknown band…and yes of course we’ll come back.
The good folks at the Whole Earth Festival in Davis welcomed us in on Sunday, and we found many new friends willing to brave the first heat of Spring, dancing like no one was watching. Thanks to you all!!

Tonight is one of mixed blessings. Achilles Wheel is a family that includes several generations, and so we are again confronting the need to gather around another dear friend who is suffering the reality of being an aging primate, and will be talking this week to doctors and others about what can be done when you find out you have cancer.
Big shouts out to Tom M who has been dancing to the music for his whole life…a lover of life and someone I admire greatly for his fearless belief in good people.
Tom must have been with us in San Francisco last Friday at the Connecticut Yankee because Achilles Wheel’s show there was just great, and felt like a family gathering. We ask you all to send him a good thought..and thank you so much.
We’d also like to thank the folks at the Yankee for having us, and for asking us to come back. We’ll be back to the Yankee on Aug 9th.
Before then we’ll be playing at Famous Moe’s in Roseville CA this coming May 4th, Fitzpatricks winery in Fairplay CA on May 10th, The Sleeping Lady in Fairfax on May 11th and the Whole Earth Fair in Davis on Sunday May 12th.
Until then, safe travels and warm fires. I’m a white guy who sings Marley songs because they speak to all people, and I’m good with that because Bob gives me the courage to sing out feel it.

Achilles Wheel, from the beginning…
I discovered the magic of music when the cook at my summer camp handed me his guitar one night and showed me the chords to a few new songs that we all liked. That story has been repeated a million times or more before and since, but it’s the truth behind everything we’ll tell you about ourselves and the people we admire from this point on.
I’ve been given the task of bringing you the news about our new band Achilles Wheel. This is fitting since I am the one person in the band, and the only person I currently know who does not have a FaceBook page. I am perhaps behind the times, or maybe not. So here I begin a blog of sorts about Achilles Wheel.. an anti-blog better yet, designed to let you know about the comings and goings, the trials and travails and the loves and passions of our musical family.
We’ll talk more about that after we play at the Connecticut Yankee in San Francisco this Friday. Thursday we’ll be at the Crazy Horse Saloon in Nevada City with a small trio, and Saturday with the full band.
